A
continuing tradition in Indianapolis, one which marks the start
of the holiday season for many volunteers and recipients alike,
is the Annual Mozel Sanders Thanksgiving Dinner. Begun years ago
by the late, Rev. Mozel Sanders, who fed a small number of needy
persons from his own generosity, the event now provides hot Thanksgiving
dinners for tens of thousands of Indianpolis area persons. As in
the past, Brothers from Alpha Phi Alpha joined hundreds of other
volunteers to help make the event a true expression of generosity
and thanksgiving. The event actually spans several days including
a radiothon several days prior to the dinner, preparations on the
eve of Thanksgiving, the Thanksgiving Day dinner itself, and clean
up on the following day. Pictured below are activities on the Wednesday
before Thanksgiving - preparing for the dinner. Among the photos
are several Iota Lambda Brothers among the many volunteers and members
of Mozel Sanders family.
