75th Annual Midwestern Regional Convention April 2007 Columbus Ohio

          The 75th Anniversary Midwestern Regional Convention, held April 12 -14, 2007, in Columbus, Ohio, had a tough act to follow. The 2006 Convention - celebrating our national Alpha centennial, had been a splendid affair. But the 2007 edition included serious business, an election of regional Vice President and Assistant Vice President, and many memorable moments.
          Among notables in attendance were current General President, Br. Daryl Matthews, and former General Presidents Br. Ozelle Sutton and Br. James Williams. Business sessions included meetings of the regional leadership team under outgoing Midwestern Regional Vice President, Br. Daryl Peal, as well as general business sessions. Candidates Br. Mark Tillman and Br. Chad Simmons engaged in friendly competition for the postion of Midwestern Regional Vice President, with Br. Tillman emerging the winner. A long list of candidates - including current Midwestern Regional Vice President, Br. Daryl Peal - campaigned for election as the next General President of Alpha Phi Alpha.
         Iota Lambda Chapter made an impressive presentation for Midwestern Regional Alumni Chapter of the Year. As in the previous year, the selection committee awarded Iota Lambda first runner up position. Competitions were also held in a number of other areas including Miss Black and Gold, Step Competition, and the Belford V. Lawson Oratorical Contest among others.
         Social, outreach, and celebratory functions included the Vice President's Reception on the opening evening, Community Outreach Luncheon, Life Members' Breakfast, and Black and Gold Awards Dinner.
