On Monday, May 19, 2008, Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) renamed a central campus building in honor of our late Brother, Dr. Joseph T. Taylor. The building which houses University College - IUPUI's academic program for most students in their first two years - and which will house the new campus multicultural center, will now be called Joseph T. Taylor Hall. Br. Dr. Taylor was one of the founders of IUPUI and its first academic dean. His curriculum vitae included many firsts related to the University, as well as a rich personal history in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., as in community, academic, and civil rights achievements.
The late afternoon celebration was moved inside at the last minute due to inclement weather. However the main floor of Joseph T. Taylor Hall was alive with celebration of the life of Dr. Taylor, particularly as related to IUPUI. Among the prominent persons in attendance were Dean Scott Evenbeck - University College, Dean School of Liberal Arts, IUPUI Chancellor Charles Bantz, Dr. Monroe Little - faculty member and chronicler of Br. Dr. Taylor's life, and immediate past Black Student Union President Dominic Dorsey II. Local members of Br. Dr. Taylor's family including his widow were present and received a commemorative gift from , Director of the IUPUI Multicultural Center. The event was supported by members of the IUPUI student body. A jazz ensemble, hors d' oeuvres, and video tribute completed the celebration.
A contingent of Alpha Brothers including William Lindsey, Dr. Lehman Adams, Willie Jones, John Davis, LaForrest Garner, Leslie House, and Ed Squires were present.

A dramatic banner honoring Br. Dr. Taylor graced the facade of the building renamed in his honor.
Inside a display of memorabilia relating to his life and his tenure at IUPUI celebrated the occasion.

Jazz stylings provided an appropriate musical
backdrop for the renaming celebration.
