How
does one of the earliest alumni chapters in Alpha Phi Alpha follow
up on a spectacular Centennial Black
and Gold formal Scholarship Ball? In 2007, Iota Lambda
- led by a dedicated team of Brothers - achieved an extraordinary
sequel. On December 7, the Alphamen, Inc. and Iota Lambda Chapter
held a elegant, gala evening to benefit our educational programs.
The
black tie evening opened with a glittering reception on the second
floor of the Indianapolis
Marriott Downtown. The dinner program opened with
emcee Br. Tony Kirkland aided by erudite Brothers from the Chapter.
The near-capacity ballroom dined on an elegant surf and turf menu
accompanied by the smooth jazz stylings of Alex Bugnon.
After
a dessert course of varied cheesecake offerings, the program resumed
with awards and recognitions. The Chapter recognized the many
patrons whose generosity made possible the success of the evening.
In addition, President Br. William Lindsey presented his recognitions
to Brothers from this chapter for distinguished service in 2007.
The tables were turned when Brs. Tony Kirkland and Dedric Dennist
presented the Alpha Man of the Year Award to Br. President Lindsey
for his service in this Fraternal Year.
The
evening conluded with the exciting, old school melodies and rhythms
of Lakeside, completing an artistic double header for this signature
event.
Brothers
and guests gathered for an elegant hour of socializing and
refreshments in the spacious
concourse of the second floor of the Indianapolis Marriott
Downtown before the dinner and program.
Alpha
finery and holiday decor made for a
luminous and colorful atmosphere.

silent auction, a feature of this elegant fundraiser.
BBr.
Tony Kirkland performed emcee duties
for various parts of the evening's program.
Br.
Damon McDade gave a stirring recitation
to introduce "The Occasion".
Br.
Rev. Willie Gholston II opened the evening
as is proper with a moment of prayer.
The
Marriott Ballroom with the splendid crowd
of Alphas and guests from the Community.
Alphas
in Indy and their guests know how
to party and how to do it in style.
Alex
Bugnon and friends provided sweet sounds
of jazz to accompany the excellent cuisine.
Major
donors and sponsors from the community
were recognized for thier generosity.
Presidential
awards for meritorious service were
given to Brothers from Iota Lambda Chapter.
Alpha
Brothers from Iota Lambda Chapter and the general area gathered
for a group photograph.
Interesting, how Alphas know when cameras are nearby!
Some
crowded the dance floor even before the
second act took the stage.
Others
were content to "kick back" and enjoy
the evening from the comfort of their tables.
And
then there was Lakeside! The popular "old school"
recording artists brought back many fond
memories as they entertained the audience late into the night.
A great time was had by all.
